Growing up a Buffalo Bills fan, we’ve been through the good and bad for decades. But one thing stays consistent year-to-year — the game day snacks. Bills fans own the tailgate and game day snack scene with some of the most impressive pre-game celebrations in the whole league. Going back to my roots, here’s a … Continue reading →

Green Pepper? No.. Red Pepper: A New Appreciation of Chinese Food

Posted on May 23, 2016 by kristinprzybyla • Leave a comment

Let me start by saying that I am no expert on “real” Chinese food. I have not been to China, nor are there many sit-down Chinese restaurants in Buffalo that I have been too. HOWEVER, if I had to put money on it, I would say that Red Pepper, located in Amherst, NY across from … Continue reading →

“Why go to the same restaurant over and over again when you can go somewhere new and inventive in an area that has new restaurants opening left and right?” This is what I am constantly asking myself when making plans to go out to dinner. I find dinner plans to be the best and worst … Continue reading →

In our inaugural interview, we spoke with Joshua M. Smith — the owner of SATO, a modern Japanese restaurant … Continue reading →

Ken’s Honey Chili Chicken

This recipe might be the most infamous family dish in the history of Przybyla family cooking. My Dad (Chef Ken) was invited to compete in the National Buffalo Wing Fest for the best amateur wing sauce for five years in a row, starting with the inaugural festival in 2002. This was our family’s first real … Continue reading →

Kathryn and I discovered the magical world of Vietnamese food about three summers ago when a colleague of Kathryn’s introduced her to the glorious, Pho 99   in Buffalo. Now this section of town is where it starts to get a little sketchy. Half of the time when visiting Pho 99, one might be worried to leave … Continue reading →

Alphabet Soup: Buffalo Wings

B is for Buffalo Wings… well Chicken Wings if you’re actually from Buffalo, NY, hometown of the first created chicken wings. Last week I had the pleasure of trying some wings that were a little different from the familiar Buffalo-style. Elmo’s, while a dark dingy dive bar, has some delicious Cajun wings. While the reviews … Continue reading →

Summer calls for the freshest food you can eat and taking advantage of the beautiful weather outdoors (before winter arrives) is a must. Outdoor patios, dinners on the lawn and feasting with a view are the way to go. For us at Rookie Chef, we can’t go long without a stop at a local Clam … Continue reading →

Buffalo: SATO

Modern Japanese cuisine seems to be the theme over here at Rookie Chef. We’re on a Asian-fusion kick that shows no signs of stopping, which has a lot to do with incredible chefs taking creativity to the next level. Our most recent excursion would be a trip home to Buffalo, N.Y. and a random happening … Continue reading →

If you haven’t stopped in yet, visit the @millersthumbbakery in Kenmore! Just opening shop in January 2023, the bakery/cafe highlights some beautiful homemade breads and pastries. The Commuter on sesame bagel was delish!
🍫🥐 In honor of #nationalcroissantday, check out how our recent chocolate croissants turned out! These were definitely a labor of love, about 9+ hours all together, but they turned out amazing! Would we make again instead of just buying from a shop? Maybe. Would we split the process over two days next time? 💯
Quick trip to #Salem for lunch at @turnersseafood 🦪 splitting the grilled salmon dinner, half dozen oysters from MA & ME, and some bacon wrapped scallops with a honey soy sauce to top it all off 🥓 #rookiechef
Swipe to see the glow up ✨
